So i find myself doing a lot of 'cute' characters for commercial purposes and I realised this morning that I have never tried to do a caricature of anyone. So i figured that I should try, and who better than Iggy Pop.

Again it has been too long....

Since leaving Animal Logic I have been flat out working on numerous TVCs involving characters and feel like i am losing my sanity.

To make the work load larger, I have started a studio with a good friend and amazing artist, Morten Rowely.

The studio is named Supervixen, and focusses on illustration and commercial fine art primarily, but we also deal in Art Direction and high end Motion and Graphic Design.

Hello to the 2 people that actually know this blog.
It has been a long time since I posted anything on this site.
When I created this blog, I intended on updating quite often,
but things, like always, tend to go abit banana sandwich on me.

I have currently finished a contract@ Animal Logic here in SYD,
where I worked in the concept dept for a new film that they are
working on. It was my first time working in a films concept dept,
and I quite liked it. However my contract ended and now I am
doing concept work @ the LaB on a few TVCs.

As far as personal sketches go, I have only a few which I will post
sooner rather than later. Here are 2 that I done. Hope you enjoy...

I kinda like this one, I was on holidays recently living it up in the islands off Queensland but during all the fun, my ear became blocked full of goop and sand and large sea dwelling mammals.... hence the sketch.

Hey Happy New Year to the 2 people that have actually seen this blog!

Short and sweet because I'm not one for talking too much... New year resolution (that i actually mean)... More traditional art!
Not that i had any real time off this Xmas/NYE, but in the day or 2 i did have off, i decided to play with charcoals and graphites again.

Its real nice to get off the computer every now and then.

Anyway... there is more to come.

Looks as though the LaB Sydney won some awards for the Arnotts Shapes commercial and the TMF Ident for MTV.. Nice one :)

A friend of mine commissioned me to do a piece for his shoulder region, something to help him battle his inner demons. It was pretty fun, I just hope the detail is replicated.

ARNOTTS PIZZA SHAPES

I have been busy working on a new commercial for Arnott's Pizza Shapes.
It was Arnotts first 3D ad so they were very concerned about it being a success.. It went air last sunday so i guess we'll find out.

My role was to design the character 'Antonio', who the client wanted to look like a cross between Shrek as a human and Mr. Incredible, as well as the Colosseum, which was cool, i got to research Roman architecture for a while.

I'll pin up a mov. file when i get one.

SAMURAI SPEED TEST

A speed test to see if i can do a half descent job of bashing together a painted image in a couple of hours.
It a good way to explore some PS brushes too.

I'll have to come back to it when i have the time... its a bit shabby.

The company i work for held an industry night to promote their facilities recently and wanted to hang up art in the stairwell entrance to attract and stir attention. They liked the swamped image and asked me to re-vamp it with a new colour palette. It was printed at a nice 2.5 meters high.

Last week i thought i would try painting Ben Kenney. What can i say,... Im a fan.
Anyway its coming along pretty well and i have tried to approach it in a looser more
open way than i normally would.
I originally wanted to paint him with glasses on as in the sketch but changed
my mind mid-way.

A couple of sketches i done on the train...

I commute on the train daily for about 3 hours, which sounds rough i know, but i dont mind it. It gives a chance to sketch and continue honing my skills. So from time to time i get a pageful of sketches of funny people on the train. Dont worry, no-one can tell im drawing them, im just the only guy sitting down facing everyone with a sketchbook and dark sunglasses on.... at night.
Anyway... here are some...

I also play with an ink brush as well... which i actually prefer...

Middleschool is a creative freelance company established by Daniel A Bavell, focused on Design | Illustration | Concept | Motion.

In my spare time i focus my effort on illustration, painting, sculpture and music.

TATTOO FOR A FRIEND

One of my oldest and dearest friends commissioned me to design a tattoo sleeve for him before he flies to LA to record an album with his band TYLERS RIOT.
This is the first step. It begins around the wrist and up the forearm. The second step is to work in the black lines to not only tie some of the existing tattoos together, but also sculpt shape and form into his arm.

With any luck he will appear on Miami Ink.. so he says. Either way he is an absolute champion.
